    I just got back from a weeklong trip to Britain to sign an organizing protocol with the AFL-CIO counter part, the British Trades Union Congress (TUC). The trip was one of the first concrete steps coming out of our Global Organizing Summit that the AFL-CIO hosted on December 10 and 11, 2007.

    Last Saturday evening, Feb. 16, America lost one of our greatest warriors for social justice and I lost one of my best friends. The Rev. James Orange died at Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta after being hospitalized for gall bladder related issues.

    In the debate about how to stimulate the economy, even progressives who ought to know better overlook America's failure to protect the fundamental human right of its workers to form unions and bargain collectively. Restoring worker rights to join unions must be part of a long-term stimulus plan.
