Because Congress makes the laws and controls the money, inevitably our aspirations have to meet reality there. Yet critical times arrive that call for statesmanship, which normally is in short supply in both Houses. Clearly, this is one of he most critical times in our country's history, in fact in human history.

Some pertinent facts: (1) The U.S. has an annual GDP of $14 trillion. (2) The est. cost of the plan is One trillion dollars over ten years. Divide the total by ten and the result is billions per year. Given the vital importance of the plan, this country can well afford universal health care.

Money is worthless if it isn't moving through the economy. We learned this in the Great Depression. Prudent spending puts money through the banks. Banks lend money to productive enterprise (properly, that's what banks do). That money grows when it is invested in the production of goods and services. That production employs workers.
