The U.S. Chamber of Commerce: Threat To Capitalism

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce announced yesterday that it would “develop a sweeping national advocacy campaign … to defend and advance America’s free enterprise values in the face of rapid government growth and attacks by anti-business activists.” The Chamber doesn’t get it. Manufacturing an Economy that Works for Working Americans

For years, conservatives have kowtowed to the heads of big corporations, who want trade deals that pave the way for them to move manufacturing operations overseas—at tremendous cost to American workers and our economy. John McCain wants to continue this trend, vowing to “remove barriers to free trade,” even though a majority of Americans view foreign trade as a threat to our economy, according to a CNN poll. Making Sense has assembled a top ten list of the worst conservative failures of the Bush years; now it’s time to hold them accountable for each and every one.

From the People Who Brought You Misery

Conservatives don’t want to admit that our economy is in miserable shape. Less than two weeks ago, John McCain said, “I still believe the fundamentals of our economy are strong.” But Americans simply don’t believe it—they think we’re in a recession. And whether or not the economy is technically in a recession, we can point to a different economic indicator of conservative failure: the misery index.

Conservatism Is Dying

Conservatism as we’ve known it since Ronald Reagan is dying, ground down in the desert of Iraq, drowned in the floods of Hurricane Katrina, foreclosed by the housing crisis and poisoned on toys imported from China.
