Its happening. Breaking step with big oil is much harder in the US and catching up is vital. Support for Big Oil is retarding US development

Conservatives Kill Renewable Energy Bill

Conservatives killed 2007 legislation that would have required 15 percent of our electricity to come from renewable sources and they continue to block the Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Tax Act of 2008.

Wind Power Capacity Rapidly Expanding

The largest component of renewables generation capacity is wind power, which grew by 28 percent worldwide in 2007 to reach an estimated 95 GW. Annual capacity additions increased even more: 40 percent higher in 2007 compared to 2006.

Obstructionpalooza

It's been quite a week for progress-haters. President Bush vetoes, for the second time, health insurance for millions more kids. The conservative minority in the Senate blocked investment in renewable energy. And the arm of obstructionism reached halfway around the world to Bali, where White House officials are throttling the international effort to combat global warming.
