I was intrigued by the following interview snippet with a co-founder of Reaganomics in the 1980's Dr. Paul Craig Roberts:
Q: You see the basic problems of the US economy in moving production to China. If you were invited to serve as an adviser to the president, what would be your plan for taking America out of the crisis?
A: I will never again be permitted to serve as an adviser to the president of the US. Since the Clinton presidency, the only permitted advisers are those who lie for the government. I will not do that.
This is strong stuff and the implications profound. In a nutshell Dr. Paul Craig Roberts puts the US Governments moral and ethical rating at junk status. This sweeping statement and condemnation comes from a man who was an Assistant Secretary of the Treasury in the Reagan Administration and his opinion carries the weight of experience.
The interview took place with pravda.ru and was subsequently published at Global Research in the article "The US will Continue Its Wars as Long as the Dollar Remains a Reserve Currency" [1]. It is a tour-de-force on subjects ranging from the roots of America's current economic problems to the adoption by the US political elite and military-industrial complex of Americans as the worlds chosen people:
Q: You wrote that the insane and criminal government in Washington, no matter Democratic of Republicans, no matter the outcome of the next elections, is the biggest threat to life on Earth ever. How would you describe this threat, what is it made of and who represents it in the US?
A: The threat is the neoconservative ideology, unleashed by the Soviet collapse. It is a form of Marxism in which American “democratic capitalism” instead of the proletariat has won history’s verdict–”the end of history.” Americans are the “indispensable people,” and the US is the “indispensable nation” with the right and responsibility to establish its hegemony over the world. Adolf Hitler called the same thing “Aryan Superiority.” Now Washington asserts the superiority. The neoconservative ideology threatens the world with nuclear war.
In this Neoconservative world of constant threat and paranoia wars are a recurring theme in the life of the American nation, they never end, and they can never end if America is going to retain its ability to print money to fix its economic problems and sustain a phenomenally large military. Threats and enemies are grist to the mill of the US war machine, THEY ARE ESSENTIAL.
In the end it appears that the thousands upon thousands of lives lost in the prosecution and sustenance Americas wars is the cost to the world of American's being the chosen people.
It works while the dollar remains strong and you say what the government want you to say....
Whatever Mr Roberts political affiliations and antecedents the views expressed in this interview has to be one of the most realistic and progressive opinions from a former government insider to surface for some time. It is telling it comes from an age when a different moral and ethical code were in force.
