Washington, DC – The Campaign for America’s Future is asking President Barack Obama for a recess appointment of Elizabeth Warren to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). And today the group delivered 20,000 signatures to the White House – all endorsing their petition urging a recess appointment for Elizabeth Warren.
Roger Hickey, Co-Director of the Campaign for America’s Future said, “Consumers want Elizabeth Warren to get the job. After the financial meltdown of 2008, we do not trust Wall Street to watch themselves. The government did not have the tools it needed to prevent the damage to Americans. A strong consumer-oriented bureau will help protect Americans from getting taken advantage of by Wall Street executives.”
The Campaign for America’s Future is continuing to gather signatures from consumers who want to see Elizabeth Warren as the head of the agency designed to monitor the finance industry.
Each day more people go to www.ourfuture.org/warren to join the 20,000 Americans who have already asked the President to for a recess appointment of Elizabeth Warren to be the head of the CFPB.
“The effort to urge the President for a recess appointment is building,” said Hickey. “A variety of groups concerned about our banking system are working together to send the White House the message that we want to be protected from the seemingly limitless greed of Wall Street’s gambling. Elizabeth Warren is the right person for the top job and the time is now.”
The law requires that the new head must be in place by July. Senate Republicans have now pledged to block any nominee unless the Bureau is weakened dramatically.
