A fairly important breakthrough on trade here at the Take Back America conference. As Canadian television reports, Canada's NDP leader Jack Layton used his visit to the conference to call for major rewrite of NAFTA [1].
Layton, of course, isn't in the driver's seat in his country. Today, Canada is governed by a right-wing pro-NAFTA party. However, the fact that progressives in the United States have used the 2008 campaign to force a debate over NAFTA is clearly having an international effect - and one for the better.
