Atrios [1] points out that...someone started a rumor that John McCain, born in Panama is not eligible to be U.S. president [2] (this is not constitutionally the case).
More evidence for my abiding thesis that the Republicans are not the party of Goldwater, but the party of Watergate. This was a nifty trick that began, like all of them do, with Richard Nixon...or someone, who circulated pamphlets in New Hampshire in 1968 that George Romney was born in Mexico and so was not eligible to be U.S. president.
