On December 8, 2003, President Bush signed a new law he claims will help seniors with their
prescription drug bills. But a close look at the stage that day showed who really stands to
benefit – drug companies and HMOs. Standing with the president weren’t seniors, but
politicians who had taken in some $14 million in contributions from the health and insurance
corporations, and the audience was chock full of lobbyists and drug and HMO industry faces.

The drug deal is a $534 billion example of what is wrong with politics today.
