Every Friday in our Weekend Watchdog feature, we post suggested questions for scheduled Sunday guests. You can add your own questions in the comment thread. We'll also include contact information for the shows, so we can let them know what their viewers want asked.
And on Sunday at 4 PM ET, tune in to Air America [1] Radio's "Seder on Sundays" [2] program, where I'll offer the Weekend Watchdog Wrap-Up.
For Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Penn. (CBS' Face The Nation [3]): This week, you suggested that a special prosecutor is needed [4] to fully investigate the Prosecutor Purge because of conflicts of interest with Attorney General Alberto Gonzales and the White House.
However, when Judiciary Committee Democrats later called for a special prosecutor to investigate Gonzales' apparent perjury, you criticized them as being "precipitous." [5]
Even though you said [6] his testimony was "devastating. But so was the hearing before that, and so was the hearing before that."
Are you truly willing to break party ranks, and back up your words with action?
For Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah (ABC's This Week [7]): In March, you insisted [8] that there was "absolutely no evidence at all that the Justice Department was trying to interfere with ongoing intervention in their cases."
This week, Senate Judiciary Chairman Patrick Leahy, in subpoenaing Karl Rove, said: [9] "The evidence shows that senior [White House] officials were apparently focused on the political impact of federal prosecutions and whether federal prosecutors were doing enough to bring partisan voter fraud and corruption cases."
Will you now acknowledge that evidence of political interference exists?
For Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. (ABC's This Week [7]): You have called for the Justice Department to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Gonzales. [10]
But even if a fair special prosecutor was appointed and indicted Gonzales for perjury, President Bush could just virtually pardon Gonzales, like he did with Scooter Libby for the same crime.
Instead of trusting the executive branch, does this matter call for the House to impeach Gonzales? [11]
