Focus on Jobs/Economic Recovery Before Deficit Reduction, Progressive Base Warns White House
AFL-CIO’s Trumka, other leaders at America’s Future Now Conference, say priorities misplaced
Mixed signals keep coming from the White House over what more it will do to counter unacceptably high unemployment. Meanwhile the President’s Commission on Fiscal Reform is chugging along on plans to trim Social Security and Medicare, while timid Blue Dogs in Congress pander to deficit hawks at the expenses of unemployed Americans.
While leaders of progressive organizations attend the Campaign for America’s Future “America’s Future Now!” conference, four key progressive leaders will share their impatience with the White House and Congress’ failure to frontally attack unemployment with additional plans to create jobs, concerned that failure to act aggressively will undermine recovery.
