Katrina: The Storm Hasn't Ended
On August 29, 2005, Hurricane Katrina reached the Gulf Coast, and the bankruptcy of the Bush administration’s conservative ideology was laid bare for all to see. But in the two years since, those affected by Katrina have been left in a continuing storm of hardship while the Gulf Coast has been turned into a playground for right-wing ideologues and Republican cronies. This page exposes the ideological underpinnings of one of the most massive and shameful disasters in American history.
President Bush promised to “do what it takes” and “stay as long as it takes” to help the people of New Orleans and the Gulf Coast to rebuild. Read our latest report, which not only documents how Bush failed to live up to that promise but underscores why his conservative ideology cannot meet the challenge of creating a more prosperous and equitable community out of the rubble.
House Majority Whip James Clyburn, D-S.C., and Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., talked to reporters and bloggers August 28 about the report's conclusions and their eyewitness observations. Read the news release and the transcript.
Video: "Disconnected"
Our latest video dramatizes how President Bush has hung up on the promises he made at Jackson Square in New Orleans two years ago. We still have hundreds of thousands of displaced Americans whose voices are not heard by this White House, and it’s up to us to hold accountable those who failed to keep their word.
