Today's Big Idea To Get America Working: Revive American Manufacturing

At the end of 2010, manufacturing was just 11.7 percent of the economy. If we want to recharge the nation's job-creation machine, we must make manufacturing a larger segment of the economy.

A bold jobs plan aims to boost American manufacturing by insisting that international trade be on a truly level playing field, America adopt a national manufacturing/industrial/economic policy, Congress write into law a "Buy American" policy for government procurement, and the administration execute a plan for capturing the lead in green energy.

Here's A Deficit To Worry About

Washington is in a Fox News tizzy about budget deficits. But even though the budget deficits were clearly caused by tax cuts for the rich, huge military spending increases and the effects of the lack of jobs, ideas for fixing those are the very things that are "off the table" in DC's discussions. more »

We have made democracy a disadvantage.

DC Trade Deals: Help Or Not – Either Way The Workers Are Displaced

Here is how our government works as we transition into the post-democracy era. Against the express wishes of the American Majority DC’s elite are getting ready to finalize “trade” treaties designed to move American jobs out of the country. This pits American workers, with their unions and their pensions and their safety protections and environmental standards, etc., against workers without these. One “side” wants just a bit of help for the “displaced” employees. The other says, “Hell, no!” Of course neither side is talking about deals that help workers here and across borders.
