In April 2006, we launched a petition drive to pressure House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, to endorse the Reverse the Raid on Student Aid Act of 2006. This bill, introduced by Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill. and Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., would slash interest rates in half on college loans and, in so doing, save the typical student borrower $5,600. more »

In 2005, we launched multiple email campaigns encouraging our supporters to lobby Congress to block cuts to Pell Grants and other education program cuts proposed in President Bush's 2006 budget. The first, in October 2005, urged supporters to ask Congress to reject a proposed a drastic cut to college loan and grant programs. more »

The Institute for America's Future and the Center for American Progress created a national Task Force to ensure excellence in public education — co-chaired by Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano, Philip Murphy, Senior Director of The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. and Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, historian and former Washington, D.C.
