After a rare week when a Watchdog question was actually asked, the Sunday shows return to form, going 0-for-3.
Not only did Fox News Sunday fail to ask Sen. Lindsey Graham if his support for the surge was based on stats from cooked books, none of the Sunday shows even mentioned the evidence from the Washington Post that the military leadership is "cherry-picking positive indicators" and "selectively ignor[ing] negative trends."
(On Fox, Sen. Dianne Feinstein did bring up the issue when asked about Gen. David Petreaus.)
On ABC's This Week, Sen. John McCain was not asked about Joe Klein blistering assessment, calling McCain remarks on Iraq "demagogic" and a "willful misleading of the American public.
And on NBC's Meet The Press, Sen. Joe Biden was not asked if he would join his presidential primary competitor Sen. Chris Dodd in refusing to vote for "any measure that does not have a firm and enforceable deadline to complete the redeployment of combat troops from Iraq," as some Senate Democrats are reportedly considering in order to secure 60 votes.
Biden was asked the related question, "Will you insist on a firm withdrawal date?" He responded that he would support a firm date to begin withdrawal of combat troops, but only a "target" date to end it.
Further, he said, "I won’t even support that if we don’t move toward a rational political solution, which is to decentralize the government according to the Iraqi constitution to give this country a chance to stay together."
All that may mean he would support such a "compromise" bill, but it's not completely clear.
