This post from Atrios sent me scurrying to the Urban Dictionary. Turns out the new definition for the word "bando" that shows up in today's USA Today. Used to be merely an :
Me: Man I gotta piss, man.
My dude: S**t, just go up on the bando.
ME: (Getting out the car, mumbling) Mother F**kin rats going be on my s**t.
Now, we learn, it's become a new synonym for "hobo": a person who makes foreclosed houses his primary abode. And guess what? "Bandoing" ain't just for the 'hood any more. USA Today lists some of our latest, latter-day Hoovervilles:
• In suburban Shaker Heights, which has $1 million homes on wide boulevards, poorer neighborhoods with foreclosed homes get extra police attention.
• East of San Francisco, a man was arrested in November on a code violation while living without water service in a vacant home in Manteca, Calif., which has been hit hard by the foreclosure crisis.
• In Cape Coral, Fla., a man arrested in September in a foreclosed home said he had been living there since helping a friend move out weeks earlier.
If progressives aren't able to take political advantage of the once-in-a-generation ruin conservatism has made of our society, it will be to their everlasting shame.
The conservative era is over. If you want it.
