Passing thoughts on a topic of the moment
July 31st, 2007 - 2:27pm ET
The Speaker of the House was weighed in on—and against—initiating precedings against impeaching Republican officials, any of them. A roundtable of progressive senators including Vermont's Bernie Sanders advanced similar arguments at the Take Back America conference in June.
I'm leaning toward an Impeach Gonzales strategy myself.
Feeling strongly that patriots have to draw a line against the eternal return of Republican lawlessness, but granting the point that impeaching even Cheney may be politically counterproductive, this seems the perfect solution: politically attainable, and yet absolutely TERRIFYING to the bosses of the Republican Party, who know that without Omerta Abu G with his finger in all the dikes, it's impossible to hide all their lawlessness.
So that's my thought. Discuss.
