House Majority Whip Backs Bush's Lobbyist-Written Trade Pact

With House Speaker Nancy Pelosi issuing a press release full of equivocating doublespeak, this just off the Reuters wire:

Democratic leaders in the U.S. House of Representatives want to pass a Colombia free trade agreement this year, but problems with the deal and legislation to help displaced workers still must be worked out, House Majority Whip James Clyburn said on Thursday. "We want to do this," said Clyburn of South Carolina.

Clyburn's state has been one of the hardest-hit by lobbyist-written trade deals like the Colombia agreement. But, as we're now learning, when money talks, Democrats walk - even when it means delivering a gift to a murderous right-wing regime.
