Mitt Romney at Pat Robertson's Regent University:
"In France, for instance, I'm told that marriage is now frequently contracted in seven-year terms where either party may move on when their term is up. How shallow and how different from the Europe of the past."
We're forced into that old conundrum - conservatives: stupid or lying? It raises a second question, too: is it Romney who's the sucker, at the hands of the person who "told" him this, or his listeners? Bit of a hall of mirrors, there. The "fact," wherever he got it, comes from confusing a movie, Sept ans de mariage(2003) for reality.
Maybe he's the Ronald Reagan conservative in the bunch after all.
