Tomorrow (Friday) as many as 1,000 Verizon workers will march with Occupy Wall Street in a protest against Verizon corporate greed. Verizon's workers are engaged in "save the middle class" negotiations with the huge telecommunications company. Profitable Verizon is trying to make its workers take pay and benefit cuts, so that a few at the top can make even more money -- just like what is happening to so many of us. This brings a natural affinity with the "99% of us" engaged in the #occupy protests at Wall Street around the country.
Update -- Laura Clawson has more at Daily Kos.
Friday Verizon workers will meet at Verizon Headquarters (140 West Street) at 4pm for a march to Liberty Plaza and then to a Verizon store. Many of the Verizon workers will stay the night at Liberty Park.
You Can Help Verizon Workers
From the site:
45,000 Verizon workers are fighting for a fair contract and to preserve the middle class and the American Dream.
If wealthy corporations like Verizon continue to outsource jobs and hold down worker wages, there is no hope for an economic recovery. This is why our fight is your fight and why your support is so important.
Join us as we leaflet at Verizon Wireless stores to get our message out: Stand with Workers, Not Rich CEOs.
iWont
Verizon workers are also engaging in the iWont Campaign, asking people not to buy or upgrade Verizon iPhones until Verizon gives workers a fair deal and stops downgrading the middle class.
