United Steelworkers President Leo Gerard sat down with OurFuture.org's Isaiah Poole to provide an inside view of the White House jobs summit. Watch it below.
He noted that while there is great focus on quick action to deal with the current rise in unemployment, moving on long-term projects -- such building a high-speed rail system -- would also generate jobs now. He also flagged as a strong idea raised at the summit is a major program to retrofit public buildings to both create jobs and cut carbon emissions.
Gerard came away optimistic, saying the event made clear that "this President recognizes that jobs ... are now at the forefront."
