In the latest edition of The Week In Blog at Bloggingheads.tv, Matt Lewis and myself discussed blog reaction to the ongoing health care, both divisions within the Left, and -- which I had not been aware of -- the Right
Apparently, the Heritage Foundation is promoting co-ops as a way to kill the public health insurance option, which is making the blog Red State mad, because they just want to kill any bill whatsoever.
Strikes me that Red State's concern -- "[Heritage's] continued push for cooperatives at this time muddies water, confuses congressmen, and plays right into the hands of Democrats" -- is ill-placed. Pretty much every Republican Senator has rejected the co-op compromise, and the very few that haven't are promoting such a weak version there's little chance it would become law.
But Red State's ire -- reflected in the comments of conservative Senators -- shows the overriding impulse of the Right: kill the bill, don't fix the problem. That's not the message the middle of the country is embracing.
