Yesterday's terrorist bombings rocked Baghdad with more killing of innocents. This, of course,is not a new phenomena. That began shortly after we invaded and occupied the country. But yesterday one Iraqi, in his anguish over losing his one year old grandson in the attack, was heard cursing George Bush and the Americans. For he clearly understood afterall, the carnage of yesterday, the destruction of his country and the lawlessness that continues,(regardless of American troops pulling out the cities and remaining on the fringes) came about after the Americans arrived.
Jihadist terrorists were not in Iraq before we invaded and occupied the country, as we subsequently disbanded it's military and wrecked it's bureacracy which effectively destroyed the civic fabric and functioning of Iraqi society. That's the ugly truth that underlies yesterday's bombings.
The main stream media dutifully stenographed the numbers dead and al Qaida's speculated role behind the attacks. But for an acknowledgment of any U.S.connection with yesterday, it took a grieving Iraqi grandfather to do this.
No one should be so naive as to believe that our departure will magically restore calm and stability to that country. But, our continued presence just delays when that time will begin.
