It took a very long time to end the fallacy that you can't protect the environment and grow the economy at the same time. But that day has come. The nail in the coffin of the canard was delivered this week, as both the AFL-CIO and United Steelworkers formally endorsed the House clean energy and climate protection bill expected to be voted on this afternoon.
Why? The AFL-CIO endorsement letter says it plain: it will spark "economic investment in new energy technologies that will create jobs for American workers."
As we speak, the right-wing noise machine -- fueled by Big Oil is cranking up to spew one last belch of misinformation about how capping carbon and investing in clean energy will impact the economy. They are desperately trying to defeat the bill at the last-minute, as there still enough undecided congresspeople to leave the final outcome in question.
