"Their Stated Goal Is to Protect Business Interests"

I know there's been much written about the potential obstructionism of Senate "conservadems," but I wanted to make sure that everyone noticed the Wall Street Journal's report on these corporatists, and particularly this passage:

Their stated goal is to rein in deficits and to protect business interests..."We really do need to change business as usual," Mr. Bayh said in an interview Monday. "People want results."

So apparently, an army of corporate lobbyists and the entire Republican Party hasn't provided enough protection to business interests over the years - and the real problem, therefore, that conservadems need to fix is making sure business interests have even more D.C. representation.

This is crazy.

I'm sorry, how is "protecting business interests" also "changing business as usual?" Hasn't "business as usual" in Washington been "protecting business interests" over the interests of everyone else? And isn't that precisely the kind of problematic attitude that gave us horrific results?
