The forces of workplace authoritarianism have gotten far too far with their propaganda that the Employee Free Choice Act, designed to make it easier for workers who want to join a union to do so, only oppose this common-sense reform because it is un-American: that it eliminates the "secret ballot" in union elections.
Well, a recent scoop from Tom Frank reveals that, surprise, surprise, that's nothing like the real reason they oppose it at all. Frank got hold of remarks made by Wal-Mart CEO Lee Scott that, surprise, surprise, the reason corporate America needs to defeat EFCA is, "We like driving the car and we're not going to give the steering wheel to anybody but us."
Get ready for a nasty fight. You might say the workplace authoritarians have just declared a class war—on you and me.
