Paging President Obama, or President McCain...

Barack Obama and John McCain are both running for president - presumably - not for pure personal glory, but because they want the power to change the country as they see fit. It seems to me that either of them has that power right now - if they want it.

If either Obama or McCain came out right now with their own recovery bill, opposition to the current bill, or even a statement of unequivocal support for someone else's bill, it is likely that most of their parties would follow them, and the political momentum would shift in favor of that bill. This is especially true for Obama, if only because the Congress has a Democratic majority. And the political benefits of doing this - if they did it right - would be huge. They would be able to show they have leadership qualities.

In other words, both of these men could be the acting president right now, if they chose to be. And we need one of them to be, if there's going to be any progress.

Paging President Obama or President McCain...if you want to be president, please show us why right now by actually taking command of the situation. You can effectively BE president right now.
