Reverse the Raid On Student Aid

April-May, 2006
boehner.jpg In April 2006, we launched a petition drive to pressure House Majority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, to endorse the Reverse the Raid on Student Aid Act of 2006. This bill, introduced by Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill. and Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., would slash interest rates in half on college loans and, in so doing, save the typical student borrower $5,600. Over 15,000 people petitioned Boehner to slash interest rates on college loans in half and increase student grant aid.

On May 3rd, dozens of college graduates and parents organized by the Campaign for America's Future marched through the halls of Congress in graduation caps and gowns to present the petition and urge lawmakers to Reverse the Raid on Student Aid. Marchers stormed Boehner's office to present the petition and press Boehner's staff to defend the representative's recent anti-student votes.
